Is NAD Therapy for you?

NAD treatments can optimize your body, mind and spirit.

Sandy Ziya is now offering it at Meridians and Marathons! What is it and why are we so excited to share it with you? Read on!

What is NAD+ Therapy?

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) is a coenzyme in every cell of your body [1]. It’s an essential component of cellular processes and is vital for digestion, cognition, and mental clarity [2]. NAD protects your cells from stress, maintains healthy sleep cycles and helps your cells repair damaged and aging DNA.

Yet, as we age our body produces less of it. “By age 50 a typical person may have only half the NAD they did in youth. By age 80, NAD levels drop to only 10% expressed in youth” [3]. While it is a normal process of aging, there are other factors that can lead to lower levels of NAD in our bodies [5]:

  • Stress
  • Diet/Alcohol/Drugs
  • Inflammation

What Happens When NAD+ Levels Decline?

The decline of NAD+ in your body have been linked to a number of age-associated pathophysiologies [4]. Some of these include:

  • Diabetes
  • Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
  • Atherosclerosis
  • Alzheimer's diseases
  • Retinal degeneration
  • Depression

The Chronic Pain Connection

Recent studies have shown a connection between NAD+ levels and chronic inflammation.

Sirtuins are a class of NAD+-dependent enzymes that mainly function to turn on or off gene expression. Many of these genes are linked to regulating inflammation, along with enhancing energy metabolism and cell vitality. Sirtuins are known to play a protective role by reducing inflammation, especially in CRPS and neurodegeneration. The metabolism of NAD+ is responsible for the activation of these important Sirtuins and thus reducing inflammation.

NAD+ has been studied for reducing inflammation and its role in protecting the cells. NAD+ is a promising therapy for chronic pain, as well as other chronic conditions and detoxification from chemical dependence, especially opioids. [5]

What else can NAD Therapy DO?

While it may not be the fabled fountain of youth, researchers investigating brain health and longevity at the Harvard have found NAD+ is an essential coenzyme that promotes cellular regeneration and brain restoration. Studies have found replenishing cellular levels of NAD+ can repair DNA, protect brain cells from damage, reduce inflammation and turn on enzymes that help prevent aging. [6]

“We recently showed that raising NAD levels in mice can reverse aspects of aging within just one week of treatment.” said David Sinclair, Ph.D., professor of genetics at Harvard University.

NAD therapy has also been shown to be helpful in treating opioid, drug and alcohol addictions by minimizing withdrawal symptoms, increasing mental clarity, and treating chronic conditions. Harvard Medicine recently called this the “The Crown Jewel of Detox” [7]. According to Emerald Neuro-Recover Centers, Harvard Medicine states that NAD IV Therapy is proven to have an 87% success rate and is considered the crown jewel of detox because of it’s rapid cleanse and restoration therapies, and it radically repairs cell damage in the brain and body.”

Other benefits:

  • Improve depression
  • Improve brain health and neurological function
  • Reduce overall fatigue
  • Restore muscle function and athletic performance

Some stats from NAD Therapy patients [8]:

  • 50% increase in mental clarity
  • 37% improvement in motivation
  • 44% improvement in handling stress
  • 45% increase in energy
  • 21% improvement in sleep

Why NAD Injections?

“We are at an exciting point in time. We can effectively test the importance of NAD for the prevention and treatment of aging and aging-related diseases in humans.” -Sean Johnson  [7].

There is some comprehensive evidence that nicotinamide riboside supplements can increase NAD levels by about 2.7 times baseline levels [8]. For people who are low on NAD, these supplements can be a great way to improve them.

For even better results, NAD injections provide a more bioavailable form of NAD that provides therapeutic benefits considered beyond the nicotinamide riboside benefits. This primarily comes down to bioavailability. Oral pills are not nearly as beneficial as direct NAD into the bloodstream. Injectables do not carry the same risks associated with IV drip. Injectables also allow us to bypass the G.I. tract, perfect for patients with a high toxin load.
